THE HISTORY OF BEXLEY NORTH PUBLIC SCHOOL
The area where Bexley North Public School now stands was orginially a small part of an immense sweep of land owned by James Chandler, a free settler from Bexley, Kent who arrived in NSW in 1820.
James Chandler gave the area the nostalgic name "Bexley" which would now include the whole of modern Bexley, the greater part of Rockdale, large areas of Bexley North and Kogarah.
Bexley North Public School has a history that starts with the Salvation Army Boy's Home, and continues to have close ties with the Savlation Army by the enrolment of the many children who live at the Training College.
The Bexley Boys home was officially opened by Commissioner James Hay on 11th December 1915, with 76 boys in residence.
In 1942 after the area was named Bexley North - The school name was changed to Bexley North Public School.
